Hometown Remedy For Monday Blues

Before you know it, Monday is upon us again. The much touted weekend hype which ended in a blur is past us now. The skies turn grey, the heavens open up. If it was a movie or a book, you'd certainly be hoping for a positive turn of events. Similarly how does one chase away the Monday Blues? A simple chit-chat with your best friend to surfing porn proves to be temporary solutions. In fact alcohol is always among the most popular option which is rarely followed through due to its lingering effects and the fact that Tuesday is looming just over the horizon.

So the perfect remedy? In my (expectedly) opinion it would be a good hearty TAI-CHOW. Lunchtime has just passed and the infamous Hand and I decided to make a quick pit stop to 'refuel' at an absolutely scrumptious lil restaurant famous for its homecooked food.

Appropriately called Hometown Restaurant, they serve the best steamed pomfret. Why is it the best? Most places have their strengths either to do with the freshness of the fish, the superior soy sauce used or even the condiments in the dish. Hometown however has got it all right. The secret to a perfectly steamed fish is the steamer itself, powerful enough to cook the fish perfect on the outside and also the inside. Result? Flesh which are smooth as silk, white as snow. Not overcooked nor is it underdone at d bones. And not leaving out its superior soy sauce, Heavenly, just heavenly....

And of course the next dish to be ordered? Being members of TCG, pork is a compulsory feature of every meal. Today's special? Layered pork stewed with brown bean (min see) paste in claypot. Now how does one even begin to resist that? The garlic cloves were left as whole while brown beans were minced to ensure the full flavour was absorbed into the pork slices.

And to ensure a balanced diet, greens in the form of a garlic stir fried choy tam (brussel sprouts) completed a simple but effective lunch for two. The end result? Carnage. The food did not stand a chance. The 'battle' was over in approximately 30 minutes. A 'casualty' was heard uttering in its dying moments how they did not know what 'hit' them.

Ahhh.... its 2.30pm now and it feels good having visited my 'HOMETOWN'. Now I've to prepare myself for round 2 tonight.
