Shall We Dance...

When I decided to catch this movie, I wasn't expected to be leaving the cinema with a sense of commitment into a relationship (not that I have one...). I had thought it was some movie to show off the charms of Richard Gere and the bodalicious J-Lo strutting it on the dancefloor. But I was pleasantly surprised, or maybe it's just the romantic side of me that surfaced that night.

Adapted from a 1997 Japanese screenplay , Shall We Dance starts off with John Clark narrating how his life is... he gets up, commutes to work, meet people, commutes home to his beautiful wife Beverly and 2 wonderful kids... daily. He owns a nice place, a nice car, a comfortable job and a loving family. What else could a man ask for? What does he wants? Even his wife can't get him something that comes in a box anymore. He has everything. Or does he?

One day, on one of his ride home, he looked up and notice a beautiful but sad looking girl staring out of a window of a dance school. When he noticed her again the next few nights, he got intrigued and decided to hop off the train on the track home, and thus begins his adventure to seek that something that might has been missing in his life. He made his way into the dance school, where he met an ensemble of quirky and eccentric characters, but most of all, he meets Paulina (Jennifer Lopez), the girl in the window. He signed up for the dance class, hoping maybe she is the something that he is seeking.

A recommended watch for those that has been in a relationship long enough, yet wonders if there is a "something" out there that can make a person happier. Sometimes, you don't have to look beyond yourself and your other half.
